Introduction to Viewing Events

This is a quick introduction to the basics of using XSnoed or XED. This is intended as a short tutorial, not a full description of the viewer.

The main window will (on first startup) show a vector-line 3d drawing of the PSUP. By clicking and dragging on the image, the drawing can be rotated in 3 dimensions. PMTs hit in the event show as circles. Note that open circles are PMT hits on the near side of the detector, while filled circles are on the far side. You can also rotate this view by dragging the bottom scroll bar left and right, which always rotates the detector around the detector-Z axis.

Most windows can be re-sized to organize your screen to your liking.

Selecting 'To Home' from the Display menu re-orients the 3d display to it's default coordinates.

The Windows menu allows one to bring up other displays. Of particular importance is the Event Info window, which shows details like NHIT, event time, GTID, Run, and the event triggers. (Essentially, all the information in the ZDAB header, or the EV bank.) The Projections and Flat Map windows give 2-d views of the PMT hits in various schemes. The Crate Map shows the hits seen by the electronics, organized into crates. Columns represent front-end cards, with channel 0 at the bottom and channel 31 at the top, organized left-to-right by card number.

The Histogram window is also important. Pulling it up shows the colour scheme used in the other windows. You may select which value is being shown with the Data menu. TAC shows PMT trigger times, Qhs, Qhl, Qlx show the respective values of charge. The histogram window then shows what colour represents what. For instance, if Qhs is chosen, blue tubes represent low charge, and red and pink tubes represent high charge. You can change the colours shown by doing a click-and-drag on the contents of the histogram.
