Specifying Neutrino Interactions in the MCPI Bank
As explained in the Monte Carlo / Event Generation / Neutrino Physics
section of the
User Manual
currently there is no generator to completely simulate a neutrino interaction,
but there are a number of neutrino generators that generate the individual
attributes: energy, direction and time. These attributes can be used in
conjunction with the "Start a Particle" interaction.
However, there are restrictions on what is supported:-
- The first particle in the MCPI may have neutrino attributes.
- Subsequent particles may only have neutrino attributes if they come from the
same vertex (i.e. have the same position and time) as the first particle.
- The neutrino flavour must be consistent throughout.
-
Here is a complete list of the supported interactions:-
- nu_e + deuteron -> e_minus [+ proton + proton]
- nu_x + e_minus -> e_minus [+ nu_x]
- nu_x + deuteron -> neutron [+ nu_x + proton]
- nu_e_bar + deuteron -> e_plus + neutron + neutron
- nu_e_bar + proton -> neutron + e_plus
Notes:-
- nu_x means any flavour neutrino.
- Particles inside [...] are not generated.
- The order of the interaction products is important; the entries in the
MCPI must follow the order shown. Trailing particles need not be
generated e.g. in nu_e_bar + proton only the neutron entry has to be
present in the MCPI.
