Viewing masks

The 'DMM Mask Number' field accepts a value just as the DMM processor interfaces do: 0 or a negative number access the DAMN banks, whereas a positive number accesses the appropriate DARN bank.

Typing in a new mask number and pressing the 'Get Masks' button (or simply pressing 'return') will attempt to retrieve that mask from the database. Since this activity can sometimes take time (while DMM loads a bank from the cache, for instance) the status line in the Snoman Control Window should read '

XED asks DMM for the appropriate bank, but will not generate a fatal error if the bank does not exist. If it cannot find the bank, it will report 'Calling up bank nnn'. If it fails, the line 'DMM failed to get bank nnn' will be displayed, and several warning messages will be printed to the standard output. (These messages may be ignored; they are entirely harmless.)

If the requested DARN or DAMN bank exists and the current event matches an existing entry, the current value of the bank should be shown. These values are updated automatically as you scan through events.

The mask is displayed two ways: in numerical form and in binary form. The numerical display defaults to decimal (ordinary base 10) notation. The applied and result mask are shown in their respective fields.

Pressing the Mode Change button (see figure 4.1 will cycle the display to show these numbers in decimal, octal, or hexadecimal.

The row of toggle-buttons to the right of the applied and result mask fields represent the binary values, with the least significant bit on the left. To see all 32 bits, you will need to expand the window to the right. Depending on what window manager you are using (i.e. CDE, KDE, twm, gnome, etc) these buttons will be checked, X-ed or depressed if the labelled bit is on. The first button is bit 0, etc. This allows you to quickly see, for instance, which data cleaning cuts this event passed or failed.
