HBOOK and PAW are CERN Library software packages which are used by SNOMAN to facilitate the non-graphics display of output. HBOOK handles statistical distributions, mainly histograms or N-tuples. An N-tuple is simply a vector of data words which are stored on an event by event basis and then written to a file at program termination for later analysis. This analysis is done using the program PAW, which allows the user to interactively perform a large number of different procedures (2-D and 3-D plotting, histogramming one variable in an N-tuple subject to cuts on one or more others, even fitting the resulting distributions using the CERNLIB routine MINUIT). In the examples given in the operating instructions we will show a few simple manipulations of the output of SNOMAN using PAW just to get people started.
