The $output_file Command

The symbolic command $output_file is defined as:-

file out 1

so, the command:-

$output_file my_file.dat

is equivalent to:-

file out 1 my_file.dat

However, this symbolic command was introduced largely for backward compatibility, and there are no equivalent commands for stream OUT 2 etc., so the use of this symbolic command is not recommended.
