The Objectives

The two primary objectives when considering event I/O are:-

• Effective use of tape. Our experiment will produce a lot of data which we need to write to tape as fast as possible and use as much of the tape as possible.

• Machine independent data. Our collaboration uses a number of platforms and we need to exchange data between them with as little fuss as possible.
