Introduction

An introduction to the SNOMAN code can be found in the SNOMAN User's Manual. Everyone should read that document first, and those who simply wish to use the code probably need to look no further. This manual is intended as a guide for those who wish to modify the SNOMAN source. It contains descriptions of the procedures that we propose SNO follow in order to keep the chaos engendered by the distributed development of SNOMAN to a minimum. These include the code management and code verification procedures, the naming conventions, and so on. These procedures must be followed if the code is to be accepted as part of the official SNOMAN software and must be accompanied by full documentation. Obviously the procedures cannot be imposed on private work although they are still recommended.

This manual also contains information about how the various packages which are central to the construction of SNOMAN (such as ZEBRA and the Management of Titles) have been implemented within the code, and how to use them when making changes. There are also somewhat ephemeral sections (such as the one on the use of HBOOK/PAW) which will hopefully be replaced quickly when someone develops a better analysis package for SNOMAN.
